At the heart of our care for children with disabilities has always been a desire to give them the opportunity to grow up in a family environment. Even the best conditions within the institutional care system cannot replace the love, close relationships, and sense of belonging that come from being part of a family, nor the opportunity to develop one’s full potential.
For some children, this became possible through international adoption. For others, in 2021 we launched a supported living home project — a place where people with disabilities can live more independently and develop their physical, intellectual, and creative potential. This model is designed to provide an environment as close as possible to a family home: each resident receives the qualified medical support they need, their own personal space, and opportunities to develop self-care skills, creative abilities, and meaningful connections within the community.
To make the project possible, the NGO MiroDim built and equipped a specially adapted facility designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities. Unfortunately, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine prevented the project from being fully launched. For now, the project remains on hold until conditions allow us to resume its implementation and give orphans with disabilities the opportunity to leave institutional care and live as independently and fully as possible.
